Danny Firestone, Hons. BA, M.Ed, RP, DBTC, OACCPP
Individual & Family Therapist
I have have had the great fortune to spend my adult life providing family counseling, couples counseling, and individual counseling to both adolescents and adults. Thanks to my talents and skills, I have tended to work with a caseload of the more hard-to-serve clients and families. My approach is best described as eclectic, and consistent with Dialectical Behavior Therapy. I have developed a reputation for working with difficult clients, including those who have been diagnosed with the following challenges:
- Attention Deficit Disorders (ADHD, ADD)
- Conduct Disorder
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Intermittent Explosive Disorder
- Mood Disorders (Depression; Dysthymia, Bi-Polar)
- Anxiety Disorders (OCD; GAD; PTSD)
- Borderline Personality Disorder
- Addictions (Gaming, Drug Use)
- Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
- Parent/Child Relational Problems
- Asperger’s Syndrome
- Eating Disorders (Anorexia; Bulimia)
Things you should know about me:
To Clients: If we decide to work together, these are the things you will learn about me. I am respectful and irreverent, and I will encourage you to let me know when I am pushing too hard. I understand that most adolescents struggle with negative emotions, impulse control and behavioral regulation, so I am patient, and I’m prepared to fight the good fight even when it gets messy. I will ask the difficult questions, and I will challenge you when you are full of unresolved contradictions. Most importantly, I will support you through the process.
To Parents and Family Members: I will ask all members of the family to work cooperatively to make the changes that are necessary to achieve a more balanced family life and to support your child to achieve goals. Sometimes, couples counseling and parenting support is necessary to promote positive change. I will respect your child’s wishes regarding confidentiality, while encouraging more open and effective communication within the family.
